Tuesday was epic, as far as a match between two teams with a combined record of 6-19 can be.

The C.M. Russell High girls opened up a 2-0 lead on Great Falls High, only to watch the Bison come back and win three straight and take the match 3-2. Furthermore, it is CMR’s homecoming week and the match was contested at the CMR Fieldhouse.

Both teams take on Butte this weekend (GFH Thursday, CMR Saturday). You can read the gamer here.

We’ve also got Dan Mediate’s column and Jesse Geleynse’s column for your perusal. And if you haven’t already done so, check out our Weekly Prep Chat.

Thursday will be something of a calm before the storm as Helena and CMR square off in a No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup Friday at Memorial Stadium. We’ll be covering that one, as well as the Great Falls Central-Power-Dutton-Brady contest.

Our local soccer teams are home for the rest of the season, beginning this weekend against Bozeman and West. GFH’s Connor Dixon is the Eastern AA’s leading goal scorer for boys, while CMR’s McKenzie Weber is second among Eastern AA girls.

In sadder news, the two-time Six-Man defending state champion Denton football team will forfeit this week’s contest with Custer/Melstone due to injuries. It’s been a tough year for that squad.

Finally, the rankings are due out today. I haven’t seen them yet, but in the meantime, read colleague Slim Kimmel’s midseason update here.
