Prep Extra and more as we embark on another week

This contributed photo shows the 1962 Belt football team that went undefeated.

Be sure to check out our High School Extra in today’s Tribune. We’ve some exciting stuff from Dan Mediate’s Class AA notebook, Jesse Geleynse’s Regional Prep Spotlight and Scott Mansch’s feature on the 1962 Belt High School football team.

We’ve also got our weekly Prep Chat, a new feature we’ve developed this fall.

The prep polls are released tomorrow and expect CMR to hold fast at No. 3 after a dominating win over Senior last Friday. Fairfield should debut in the Class B poll, while Great Falls Central has a good chance to make an appearance in the Class C poll.

The CMR and GFH girls’ soccer teams had a rough weekend last weekend. The Bison lost to both first-place Bozeman and Billings West, while the CMR girls also lost to Bozeman and tied with West. The GFH boys lost their first two games of the season to Bozeman and West, while the CMR boys stunned West for their first win over the Bears in Billings in six seasons.

Nick Downs, one of the best if not the best boys’ player in the state, had two goals as he returned after missing the first crosstown game while on a recruiting trip to North Carolina.

It could be another tough weekend for the Electric City soccer teams as they head back to the Magic City for matchups with Senior and Skyview. These road trips have proven tough the past couple of  years for our teams.

The Great Falls High football team returns home to face a talented Helena Capital squad to took CMR to three overtimes before falling on its last trip to Memorial Stadium. The Bison, of course, will look to rebound from last week’s 49-0 defeat to Skyview.

The Havre football team won its first game of the season last Friday, 40-26 over Sidney. And it’s worth noting that C/J-I is still undefeated in Class C action after demolishing Fort Benton 52-12 last weekend.
